If you're looking for:

• Artificial grass price per square meter

• How much it costs to install artificial grass

• Differences between cheap and premium artificial grass

• Why two budgets can vary so much

This guide explains it with real technical criteria and direct experience in manufacturing and installation.

What does the price of artificial grass really depend on?

The price of artificial grass per square metre in Spain in 2026 can range from €6 to €40 only in material, and €25 to €55 installed, depending on the quality of the product and the base system used.

It is mainly determined by:

• Quality of the polymer used

• Fiber weight per square meter

• Decitex (thread thickness)

• Fiber height

• Stitch density

• Backing and drainage system

• Manufacturing technology

• Manufacturer and traceability

• Distribution chain

Between 70% and 80% of the cost of manufacturing corresponds exclusively to yarn.

1. The thread: the component that most influences price and durability

The thread is the synthetic fiber that forms the brushes of the artificial grass. It is primarily responsible for the cost and life of the product.

1.1 Polymer: Quality begins in chemistry

Most threads are made of low density linear polyethylene (LLDPE).

Not all LLDPE are the same.

A high-quality polymer incorporates:

• Advanced UV stabilizers

• Antioxidant additives

• Long-term plasticians

These elements determine whether the grass maintains its color and elasticity for 10-15 years or begins to degrade in 3-4 years.

C4, C6 and C8 polymers

• C4 (butene) → more economical, less elasticity

• C6 (hexene) → cost-performance balance

• C8 (octeno) → greater flexibility and structural resistance

In Sumigran we work with high traceability and high quality polymers in order to always offer the best artificial grass on the market.

1.2 Decitex (dtex): the thickness of the thread

The dtex measures the weight in grams of 10,000 meters of thread.

• 6,000 dtex → thinner fiber

• 12,000 dtex → thicker and more resistant fiber

In residential garden:

• 7.000-12.000 dtex → traditional models

• 15.000-23,000 dtex → multi-directional models

1.3 Fiber height

More height = more thread consumption per square meter.

A 40 mm lawn uses approximately twice the length of thread per handle than a 20 mm, this directly affects as a quantitative factor in the weight of the fiber that we will use in the final product

1.4 The stitch density

A lawn of 18,900 stitches / m ² has nothing to do with one of 12,000 stitches / m ², although both measure 35 mm and have the same decitex.

More density involves:

• More raw material

• Better recovery after foot

• More natural appearance

Technical formula of the price

dtex × height × density = actual fibre consumption per m ²

2. The backing and the drainage system

Under the thread we find:

• Simple or double backup

• SBR latex or polyurethane or polypropylene (for recyclable bases)

• Drainage system perforated

A double latex-coated backing, or other material that seals the fibres to the support, of high quality:

• Improved dimensional stability

• Reduces tear-ups

• Increase service life

The ideal drainage rate on the outside should exceed 30 l / m ² / min. This reference is already well suited for the drainage of the artificial grass itself. In this case and technical requirement already depends more on the base or support where the lawn is placed than the artificial lawn itself to ensure a correct and sufficient drainage

3. The distribution chain

The same product may follow different paths:

Factory → importer → distributor → shop → installer → customer

Each intermediary adds margin.

A higher price does not always mean better product; sometimes it reflects more commercial structure.

4. Manufacturing technology: when weight is not everything

In the equation of the cost of the product and its final price on the market, we cannot forget the technology used in the production system.

So far we have based ourselves on fiber weight as a quantitative and more "democratic" factor to easily compare artificial grass models and to more effectively compare the fair price of the product we intend to acquire.

At this point we add an extra qualitative factor that is production technology and that is that for example we can see in the market, and in our own collection of Sumigran, cases of products with less yarn weight but more expensive in their final price, this is mainly the case in the new MULTIDITIONAL models (Sumigran REAL line).

In the multi-directional lawn (more realistic and natural-looking grass), the manufacturing technology used is more expensive, more recent in its development (with investments to be amortised by the factories) and requires more controls on its production and more human resources in the verification of the correct manufacture, all this influences the final cost of the product.

5. Differences between cheap and premium artificial grass

Appearance  Basic and mid-range Top range Premium range
Fibre weight < 1,4 kg/m² > 1,4 kg/m² > 2 kg/m²
Polymer  C4 or generic C4+C6 / C6 C4+C6 / C6 / C8
Service life 3–10 years 10–20 years 10–20 years
Recovery  Low-Medium High  High
Price  6–14 €/m²  14–22 €/m² 22–40 €/m²

7. The fairest indicator for comparing artificial grass

Fibre weight in kg/m²

Integrate:

• Dtex

• Height

• Density

It's not manipulative.

But attention: The weight should be analysed together with the polymer (raw material quality) and the system / technology used in its production.

A heavy product with mediocre polymer can yield worse than a slightly lighter product with premium polymer.

8. How much is artificial grass in Spain in 2026?

Material (approximate data according to sector information):

• Basic and medium line→ 6-14 €/ m ²

• High line→ 14-22 €/ m ²

• Premium line→ 22-40 €/ m ²

Complete installation (according to data collected in the sector):

• €20-55 / m ²

9. Professional Checklist before accepting a budget

Always requests:

• Fiber weight in kg / m ²

• Height

• Dtex

• Density

• Type of polymer

• Drainage rate

• Certifications

• Guarantee

Why this information is not marketing

This analysis is based on actual manufacturing specifications, polymer technical data sheets and direct import and installation experience since 2003.

Technical conclusion

The price of artificial grass is determined by:

• Polymer quality

• Fiber mass

• Height

• Density

• Backing

• Technology

• Manufacturer

• Distribution channel

Compare only for €/ m ² is to compare without context.
